Hi TWL loves! You may be thinking this post is from Amy ... I mean, let's face it - she is the master of wedding day timelines. But I decided that it was a topic that was also very near and dear to my heart so I'd attempt to tackle it from a photographer-perspective.
Wedding day timelines are stressful; for you, for an event planner and for all the vendors to be honest. There are a million and one combinations of how a day can run but I figured I'd share the perspective of a bride who leaves extra time in between the ceremony and cocktail hour. This bride is my favorite type of all!
Don't freak if you aren't having a massive gap between ceremony and cocktails - this doesn't mean you can't and won't have great photos. But let's face it - a little extra time means extra time to "fix" a few things here or there, time for lipgloss re-application and most importantly (and my favorite), time to potentially shoot in more than one location.
I figured I'd share a few photos from a wedding earlier this month. (adore you Kaelyn + Elliott!) They had a sizable gap between the church service and their cocktail hour and this allowed us to shoot in ... 3 locations! (This is NOT the norm but my point in sharing is that there is more flexibility when there is time to spare.) They got married just ONE block away from Wesleyan University's campus and we made sure to take advantage of some time there. Beautiful buildings and some shaded spots to give us a break from the heat were a great way to start their formal photos. We then headed to Haddam and were able to shoot by the water and the old-fashioned train station.
I guess what I really want to share here in this post is that it always pains me when a bride is barely leaving time for photos because they are so anxious to pick up a cocktail ;) (and trust me, I loveeee a beer more than anyone!) Just remember that if you have a chance to give any extra time to anyone, the photographer is a great place to start! You will never look back and regret extra photos ... or even an extra place to shoot. Enjoy a small snippet of Kaelyn and Elliott's day and a few of the backdrops we were able to enjoy because of all that delicious time they gave me! XO - Brooke
